Common elements of Indonesian cuisine include rice, fish, sambal (spicy relishes mixed with food), coconut milk and spices.
Until 1949, Indonesia was part of the Dutch East Indies, and this colonial history has given rise to a large immigrant population in recent times in The Netherlands, and introduction of their cuisine.
