French Restaurants

Amsterdam has no shortage of French restaurants, in part due to its proximity. In fact there are fewer cuisines that are more highly represented in Amsterdam. Below are a selection of the best.

Named after owners Annemieke den Uijl and Nick White, De Witte Uyl looks like something out of a timewarp, with its 1920s theme and oak furniture.

Venture inside and you will find a relaxed place very popular with locals.

There can be found a fixed price menu where you can choose two dishes and a dessert. The wine list is extensive, also featuring a range of cognacs.

De Witte Uyl is neither cheap nor expensive, but represents very good value for money at the price you pay.

A La Ferme

Located in the Pijp area near the famous Albert Cuyp market, A La Ferme is a French Mediterranean restaurant with modern decor and good service.

There are a number of set menus of three meals. It is advisable to book beforehand to avoid disappointment.

Owned by chef Jean-Christophe Royer, this Michelin star restaurant features interior design by William Katz.

Royer was born in Algeria and brings his North African influence to his dishes, using many traditional Mediterranean ingredients.

Menus change depending on the time of year and views of the canal are afforded to those by the windows.

Men should observe the dress code and wear a jacket.

This resaurant is dressed in the colours of a cherry orchard (Kersentuin) and features tall windows.

It is one of the more popular French restaurants in Amsterdam, especially with famous people.

Restaurant November

Run by Head Chef, Paul Jonker, Restaurant November describes itself as serving "Mediterranean dishes, with the necessary French influence".

With good service and good food, up to eighty diners can be accommodated in one of the larger French restaurants in Amsterdam.

In the high season, Restaurant November features a alrge outside terrace where diners can enjoy lunch and dinner.
