Amsterdam Red Light District
Amsterdam is famous the world over for its red light district. Whilst many other countries actually have similar districts, also lit in red, none are as majestic a site or as widespread, as in Amsterdam.
Amsterdam has several red light districts to speak of, including one on the Singel canal and one in De Pijp, however De Wallen or Walletjes is the most famous.
The Red Light District is barely a ten minute walk away from Centraal Station and is the main hub of tourist traffic.
There are several small rooms in the red light district formed on the main canals and small alleyways, where prostitutes openly ply their trade. The rooms are small and, when occupied, only a red curtain seperates the prostitute and her customer.
The going rate is 50 Euros (formerly 100 Guilders) for what is usually no more than 15 minutes for one position. Customers must pay more for longer time and more positions.
As well as the main red light windows of the district, there are also a number of other offerings including sex shows, sex shops, peep and video booths, coffeeshops and blue-light transexual prostitutes. Beware that some material may offend such as zoophilia and scat porn.
The area is generally very safe with large amounts of tourist traffic regularly walking through. In fact, the police maintain regular patrols in the area.
