I have stayed at the Rho Hotel several times. If you've read my FREE Amsterdam hotel guide, you will know how highly I rate this hotel.
If you are a backpacker seeking a budget room, then this is probably not your cup of tea. Likewise, if you are a business traveller expecting a la carte dining and good conference facilities plus gym, then again, you should look elsewhere. There are many other fine hotels that you can find out about here: Amsterdam Hotels.
If, however, you are like most people getting away for a few days or more and need a clean, modern hotel with everything you need then Rho Hotel is my recommendation. The hotel used to be a theatre and has that opulent feel unlike some other hotels totally devoid of personality.
First of all, the rooms - you can expect a clean room with good furniture, a nice bathroom, television and safe in the room. I have stayed here in single rooms and also in rooms for up to three people and this consistent good quality of the rooms is evident throughout.
Secondly, the location - you simple cannot beat it. Rho Hotel is located off a small street just off Dam Square, the heart of Amsterdam. There are very few competing hotels, and none in this bracket of the market, that can boast such a great location. Don't worry, from your room you cannot hear any of the hustle and bustle of Dam Square, how they achieve this is a miracle beyond my comprehension!
Thirdly, the facilities are very nice for a hotel of this price. There is a nice hotel bar which is open until the late hours. There is also a safe deposit feature requiring both your key and that of the hotel staff for high security. Luggage can be left in a secure room and an elevator is present, something of a rarity in Amsterdam - no steep, winding stairs here! Additionally, free Wi-Fi is included plus the hotel have their own bicycle rental available with new, well maintained bikes for hire at reasonable prices.
Lastly, something I consider a great bonus when many Amsterdam hotels will offer the same breakfast of ham, cheese, breads and jams - Rho Hotel offers a hot cooked breakfast buffet including bacon, eggs and good coffee. I find no better way to start the day in Amsterdam!
