Amsterdam has a plethora of museums to cater for the different tastes of every visitor, indeed many people come to Amsterdam only to visit the museums.
Whether you are looking for modern art, ancient art, war history, anthropology or anything else, Amsterdam's museums have it to offer.

Van Gogh Museum Open Daily 10.00-18.00 except Friday 10.00-21.00 and closed on 1 January
Probably one of the most famous museums in Amsterdam, the Van Gogh museum celebrates the largest collection of works by the artist considered to be one of the greatest painters in European Art History.
On permanent exhibition are over 200 paintings and 500 drawings by Van Gogh and his contemparies, including the famous "Sunflowers".

Some will have read the famous diary of Anne Frank written whilst her family went into hiding during World War II. Many more are aware of the story, making this attraction one of the most popular in Amsterdam. Located in a quiet area west of the city centre, the Anne Frank House is the carefully preserved building in which the Frank's hid, including the famous bookcase concealing The Secret Annex.
Rijksmuseum Open Daily from 9am to 6pm and closed on 1 January
Currently under renovation and only partially open until 2008, the Rijksmuseum is one of the largest, in fact the largest museum in the Netherlands. Specialising in European paints and arts, it currently draws over a million visitors per year. However, until the renovations are complete, the Rijksmuseum will profiles works from the Golden Age, including Rembrandt's famous "The Night Watch", as well as works by Vermeer.
Sex Museum Open Daily from 10am to 1130pm
One of many alternative museums and also known as the "Seksmuseum", this museum trawls the history of sex through the ages. Many ordinary people visit this museum, as intrigued as you or I by the history of sex.
Featuring historic pornography and artefacts, as well a modern drawings and paintings, you are sure to find many eye-openers in this museum!
