Keukenhof

Keukenhof, also known as the "Garden of Europe" is located in Lisse, a small town close to Haarlem and between 30 minutes and one hour from Amsterdam and welcomes nearly one million visitors a year.

Set on the grounds of an old castle, Keukenhof is famous for its beautiful 70 acre site of flowers in bloom.

It is usually open each year from the last week in March till the middle of May. This allows you to see a variety of flowers in bloom including daffodils, crocuses, hyacinths and, of course, tulips, of which there are over 1,000 varieties alone.

In 2007, Keukenhof will be open until 20 May and starts at 8am each day, closing at 7.30pm.

There is plenty for kids to do as well - there is a special childrens' trail and a small zoo.

Bikes are also available for hire from Keukenhof so you can explore the town of Lisse.

Even if you do not visit the Keukenhof, get a window seat on the plane and you might be lucky enough to see it from the skies as you fly into Schipol airport! Even from 10,000 feet, it is still a beautiful sight to behold.
