Department Stores
Amsterdam is well known for its shopping opportunities, and can also boast many department stores, which sell a variety of goods from textiles to electronics, household to food. The most famous of which is De Bijenkorf, the best department store in the country, however there are also many others offering different fare.
De Bijenkorf
One of thirteen branches in the Netherlands, Amsterdam's De Bijenkorf department store is the largest in the country and generally considered to be the best.
It holds membership of the Association Commerciale Internationale, an accolate that is awarded only to one store per country, such as John Lewis in London, UK and Galeries Lafayette in Paris, France.
Literally meaning "beehive", De Bojenkorf is considered to be a top end, higher quality department stores, with several floors offering items such as household goods, furniture and clothing.
It is easily found on Damrak opposite the monument in Dam Square.

Magna Plaza
In a building that dates from the late 19th century, Magna Plaza occupies what used to be the old post office building. It now boasts over forty shops on four floors offering everything from clothing to gadgets as well as a number of popular lunch rooms.
Magna Plaza is easily found behind the Royal Palace opposite Dam Square.

Maison de Bonneterie
Operating from within an old warehouse, Maison de Bonneterie sells mainly women's clothes but also sportswear.

Metz & Co.
Metz & Co. is an old store dating from 1891. It is most well known for it's top floor restaurant offering for diners, popular view of the city of Amsterdam.
