If dancing is your thing, Amsterdam can boast over a hundred dance clubs that will cater to every taste including yours. Note that it is customary to tip the doorman/bouncer when leaving the venue. Below are a selection of just some of these:
Escape Rembrandtplein 11-15 Open since the 80s and featuring a huge capacity of 2500, Escape is one of Amsterdam's most famous dance clubs. Saturday night features popular night, Chemistry.
Mazzo Rozengracht 114 Established for a number of years now, Mazzo plays house, jazz and many other types of music.
Odeon Singel 460 In a building dating from the 17th century, Odeon plays all types of music. On any given night, there can be up to three floors playing differing styles on each, from jazz to rock to hip hop and R&B.
Melkweg Lijnbaansgracht 234 Featuring mainly live music but also a dance club on popular nights.
Panama Oostelijke Handelskade, 4 Panama caters for an older clientele and is a more upmarket and expensive venue. An ideal place for dinner then dance, Panama is a dance club famous for its cocktails as well as the occasional set by world famous DJs.
Paradiso Weteringschans 6-8 Formely a church, Paradiso is mainly a live music venue but also features club nights. All kinds of music can be found depending on the night, such as jazz, raves and disco.
Sinners In Heaven Wagenstraat 3-7 Featuring three floors, plush surroundings and designer furniture, Sinners In Heaven is the place where celebrities and sportpeople hang out. Membership is common but, for you and I, dress up for the occasion or be prepared to be refused entrance. Sinners In Heaven features regular resident DJs.
West Pacific Haarlemmerweg 8-10 Based on the site of a former gas plant, West Pacific is a bar, restaurant and club. It also features a nice outdoor terrace. Playing latin, hip hop and other genres, West Pacific gets busy so arrive early to avoid disappointment.
Winston International Warmoesstraat 131 Centrally located near the red light district and therefore one of the most easy to reach dance clubs, Winston International features DJs every night of the week playing an eclectic mix of tunes.
The Power Zone Daniel Goedkoopstraat 1-3 This is a truly mega club, with a capacity of over 5,000. Based in an industrial area near Amstel station, their policy is to have no door policy. Also, the usual practice of tipping is not expected. House music dominates this venue, what is surely one of the largest dance clubs in The Netherlands.
