Amsterdam Markets

Amsterdam has many traditional open air markets, bustling with customers all year round. Many locals shop exclusively at markets where bargains can be found here and nowhere else. Whilst modern shops have fixed, non-negotiable prices, at street markets you can haggle and barter for your goods.

Below are the largest markets in Amsterdam and the ones that we recommend.

Albert Cuyp Market
Albert Cuypstraat, Open 9.30am-5pm Mon-Sat, closed Sun. Trams 4, 16, 24 & 25.
This street market or flea market is Amsterdam's largest open air market. Located south of the city centre towards the Jordaan area on Albert Cuypstraat, this is a general market that sells everthing from jeans to seafood to fabrics.

Waterlooplein Market
Waterlooplein, Open 9am-5pm Mon-Sat, closed Sun. Trams 9, 14 & 20, Metro Waterlooplein

More tourists visit Waterlooplein market than any other. This flea market of over 300 stalls sells cheap clothes, second hand goods and antiques.

Bloemenmarkt
Open 9.30am-5.30pm Mon-Sat, 11.00am-5.30pm Sun.
Also known as the Flower Market, this market sells flowers, particularly the Dutch national flower, the tulip, but many others, including their seeds and bulbs. Located on the Singel canal, it is close to the Muntplein area and not far from Leidseplein. This is one of the most popular Amsterdam markets.

Noordermarkt
Open 7.30am-1pm Mon, closed Tue-Sun. Trams 3 & 10.
Located in the Jordaan area, this market specializes in mainly second hand clothes, shoes and jewellery. Bargains galore can be found, but only if you can seperate the good from the bad.
